Horseshoe Volleyball Club players that wish to play at the collegiate level should be proactive in their college search. Below are some important steps to take in order to maximize your chances at being recruited. We highly encourage any athlete and their parents to consider our recruiting service, SPORTS RECRUITS. See below for more information regarding Sports Recruits. If you are interested in registering a Sports Recruits profile, please email horseshoevbrecruiting@gmail.com.
What To Do:
1. Beginning your sophomore or junior year, collect video of full games, highlights of skills, practices, scrimmages, etc. Then, find a platform to put these videos such as Sports Recruits or YouTube.
2. Create a list of potential colleges you would like to attend. When creating this list, you should first consider the size of the college, location, academic programs, volleyball program, and cost. As you progress through your sophomore and junior year, begin to narrow this list down. You should consider the following when narrowing down your list to the final schools you are interested in:
3. Make contact with the coaches of any college you seek interest as soon as possible. You can find most college coach's contact information on their volleyball page of their athletic website. Complete any recruit questionnaires as soon as possible. These questionnaires can often be found on the volleyball page or the athletics home page. Once you make contact with the coach, be sure the player is communicating with the coach frequently. You can invite college coaches to practices and tournaments and include a link to your team page. Include any links to your Sports Recruits profile or YouTube videos. Setup an on-campus visit your junior or senior year. Division 1, 2 and 3 schools all have different recruiting rules and the college coaches will communicate what they can and can't do once you make contact.
4. Get involved in your school and community. There are scholarships out there for student athletes involved in a variety of clubs or community activities.
5. Maintain good grades and challenge yourself academically when given the opportunity to do so. Schools that have rigorous academic programs often favor students that challenge themselves academically during their high school years.
6. Once you have your final list of schools, begin completing applications for those schools. You will need to be sure to complete applications before deadlines outlined on the school's admissions page of their website. You will more than likely need to complete a a Financial Aid form (FAFSA) as well along with your application. Be sure to communicate with an admissions counselor for all the requirements you will need to do to complete the application process.
7. Once accepted into the schools on your list, you should have all the pieces you need to make your final decision.
8. Horseshoe VBC staff is here to help you along the way, so please seek your coaches and directors out. They can often give you helpful insight as many of our coaches and directors have played and/or coached at the collegiate level.
Click the link above to read more about what Sports Recruits can offer. As a member of Horseshoe Volleyball, the cost of the Sports Recruits service is much cheaper than if you purchased it on your own. A Sports Recruits profile is similar to a Facebook profile where athletes can easily search and "like" potential colleges, communicate with college coaches, post statistical information and videos and more. The directors of Horseshoe Volleyball Club can access each athlete's profile and communicate with the athlete directly within their profile. Once your profile is registered, the service recommends your profile to various colleges across the country. If you are interested in a Sports Recruits profile, email horseshoevbrecruiting@gmail.com.
